Pinup Tank Photo Shoot

In April 2024, Lerro Photography sponsored a classic pinup photo shoot at the WWII American Experience Museum in Gettysburg, PA. We brought a Sherman tank and WWII jeep outside for the photo shoot and moved them into the open field next to the museum.

During the first hour of the photo shoot, the photographers were taught how to use off-camera flashes and basic lighting techniques. These included balancing light power vs. ambient light and different lighting angles to create different shadow effects. The photographers then practiced those techniques for the next hour with our pinup models, Anna and Aleah.

Once our dinner break was over, we went back out to much better sunlight. I purposely started the workshop early in the afternoon, which doesn’t have the best sunlight angles, to give the photographers plenty of time to get familiar with the camera flashes and practice their new techniques. That way, they would be ready to go after dinner when the sunlight was much better. For the next couple of hours, our photographers enjoyed a variety of scenes with the gals posing with the tank and jeep.

Just before sunset, we moved the tank into a position that silhouetted it against the sunset. Once sunset occurred, the photographers were able to get shots both with and without the flashes, which gave very different effects.

We want to thank the WWII American Experience for being a great host for our photo shoot, as well as our pinup models Anna and Aleah. We’d also like to thank Sharon Key Rea of Sharon’s Creative Sewing for supplying vintage outfits for our photo shoot.
