Colorado Fall Colors & Ghost Towns Photo Workshop
October 5-8, 2026
Ridgway, CO
Join Lerro Photography as we photograph the spectacular fall foliage and beautiful San Juan Mountains of Southwestern Colorado. The bright golden aspen leaves, the silver bark of the trees, and the snow-capped San Juan Mountains make a brilliant setting for photographs that will become all-time favorites in your portfolio.
During our photography workshop, we’ll spend four days visiting some of the most beautiful areas of the Centennial State. We’ll follow the leaves and the landscapes to Dallas Divide, Silverton, Telluride, and Mt. Sneffels. Historic ghost towns with dramatic relics of Colorado’s mining heritage add foregrounds that tell the tale of men who worked here long ago. The local ranch culture provides us with stunning vistas that define the American West. We’ll take in the absolute best of the fall colors in places like Wilson Peak, Owl Creek Pass, and Ironton.
Participants will learn how to photograph these magnificent scenes under many different lighting situations. We’ll take incredible pictures during sunrise and sunset, learn about backlighting to create dynamic scenes, and explore nighttime photography with the dark skies of Western Colorado. The trip is scheduled during the New Moon, making the skies ideal for photographing the Milky Way.
Night Photography
In addition to our sunrise and sunset sessions, we will feature night photo sessions. The trip is scheduled over the New Moon, so the skies will be perfect to incorporate the Milky Way into our scenes. Our night scenes will feature old mills and classic ranch gates for our night photo sessions, which will amazingly silhouette against the Milky Way in the background.
