Cumbres & Toltec Photo Charter

October 27-28, 2026
Lerro Photography and David Williams are sponsoring a two-day steam charter at the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad in October of 2026. At 64 miles in length, the C&TS is the longest, the highest and most authentic steam railroad in North America. During our photo tour, our trains will traverse the high desert, steep canyon walls, two tunnels, tall trestles, and high aspen mountains. Our charter will happen at the end of the passenger train season, so we’ll have the railroad to ourselves.
October 27: Rio Grande K-36
A Rio Grande 2-8-2 K-36 will pull a mixed freight from Chama to Osier and back to Chama. Enjoy the sights and sounds as the K-36 fights the 4% grades out of Chama to Cumbres Pass. Once at Cumbres Pass, our photo train will then travel through Los Pinos Valley, over Cascade Trestle and stop in Osier. After lunch and servicing, the photo train will make its way back towards Chama, performing more runbys. For the photo charter, the locomotive will be relettered to Rio Grande.
October 28: D&RG #425
D&RGW 2-8-0 #315 will be relettered and numbered to D&RG #425 and will pull a mixed train from Antonito to Osier and back to Antonito. The landscape changes drastically from the high desert of Antonito to the aspen tree mountains in Osier.
Our photo train will perform runbys at numerous locations throughout the day, and we’ll have two crews so we can photograph the train from sunrise to sunset.
